 PILGRIMAGE TO THE HOLY LAND

PROPOSED ITINERARY

TUE 3 AUG 10    Depart from Washington DC according to flight arrangements.

WED 4 AUG 10     Arrive Amman, Jordan and transfer to hotel.  Mass will be celebrated before dinner and overnight.

THR 5 AUG 10    After a great buffet breakfast, we depart Amman and drive to Madaba to see the oldest map of the mid-East which is a mosaic in the floor of the Greek Orthodox church.  Continue to Mt. Nebo where Father will celebrate Mass overlooking the Promised Land.  Stop at the Workshop for the Disabled to see how they are creating wonderful mosaics and have lunch before continuing south to Petra.  Check into our hotel for dinner and overnight.

FRI 6 AUG 10     A day in Petra.  Enter The Siq with expert guide, Bashar Twal and experience the wonder of Petra as we walk thru hidden canyon walls to the Treasury.  After a full day of exploring this Beduoin treasure, return to the hotel to relax around the pool before dinner and overnight,

SAT 7 AUG 10   After breakfast, depart north, stopping for coffee along the way before our visit to the Decapolis City of Jerash.  Return 2500 years to this Roman/Greco town and see what life was like.  Continue north to the King Hussein Bridge/border crossing and enter Israel.  Check into our hotel overlooking the Sea of Galilee.  Mass in the garden on the Mount of Beatitudes before dinner.

SUN 8 AUG 10   After breakfast, go down to the Sea of Galilee and take a boat across to visit Tabgha where Our Lord fed the 5,000 men with 2 loaves and 5 fishes.  Continue to The Primacy where he asks Peter, "Do you love me?" and then to Capernaum.  After our tour of the excavations of this ancient town, we can enjoy a special “St Peter’s Fish” lunch (unless you’d like chicken) and then drive up to Mount Tabor, where we'll transfer to taxis and go up to visit Antonio Barlucci's magnificent church.  Father will celebrate Mass before we return down to our coach.  Stop by Yardenit on the Jordan River to renew our baptismal promises before we return to our hotel for dinner and overnight.

MON 9 AUG 10     After breakfast, we pack up and head to Cana where we’ll renew the wedding vows of our couples and then continue to Nazareth where the Word was Made Flesh!  Have a mid-East lunch before we walk from Mary’s Well thru the market streets to Joseph’s Carpenter Shop and the original village of Nazareth which is under the magnificent Church of the Annunciation.  Have time for prayer in front of the Grotto where Mary “heard the Word” before we leave Nazareth and drive south to the Dead Sea.   Take a break by the sea and have the opportunity to ‘float’ in the mineral-laden waters and rejuvenate yourself in the ‘mud’ of the seabed.  We continue into Jericho to see the Mount of Temptations and a sycamore tree (like Zeccahus climbed) before we check into our Intercontinental Hotel.  Dinner and overnight in Jericho.

TUE 10 AUG 10   After breakfast, we'll drive up to Bethlehem and have time to shop in one of the big Christian stores before or after included lunch at the Franciscan Casa Nova. After visit the oldest Christian church in the world, built over the place where Our Lord was born. We’ll continue to Jerusalem to the top of the Mt of Olives and walk down from the place of the Ascension to the Carmelite Convent where we remember Jesus teaching the Our Father, and continue down to Dominus Flevit where He wept over the city, and down to Gethsemane where Father will celebrate Mass.  Check into our hotel for dinner and overnight.

WED 11 AUG 10  After breakfast, we drive around the city walls once more to  St. Peter in Gallicantu where our Lord was held by the high priest when he was arrested.  Have time for prayer and meditaton.  Drive up toMt Zion to visit Dormition Abbey where “Mary Slept” and the Upper Room. Father will celebrate Mass at the Franciscan property of the Cenacle.
In the afternoon,  walk and pray the Via Dolorosa through the streets of the Old City up to Calvary and the Holy Sepulchre.  Join the Franciscan for Benediction and then have some free time before we return to our hotel for dinner and overnight.

THR 12 AUG 10     After breakfast, drive around the city walls to the Dung Gate and enter The Old City in the Jewish Quarter and visit the Western Wall. Many Jewish boys will come to celebrate their Bar Mitzvah here today and we can pray at and leave our petitions in the Wall. After, walk up onto the Temple Mount where Jesus taught and prayed; where he was presented by his parents after birth; where he was tempted by the Devil to throw himself down; and, where he was angered by the money changers. Today on this Moslem property we find the El-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock.
We pass the closed Golden Gate as we leave and enter the Crusader church of St. Ann’s and the Pools of Bethesda. Leave the city by St. Stephen’s Gate.
Stop at Yad Vashem  to visit the Children's Holocaust Memorial and Garden of the Righteous and eat in their Kosher Cafeteria.  Continue to  the Israeli Museum and see The 1/50th scale model of the city at the time of Christ.  It will help you understand how the walls have changed before we continue to our hotel. Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.

FRI 13 AUG 10    Father will be the Celebrant for the Latin Mass with the Franciscans at the Holy Sepulchre  then we'll return to our hotel for breakfast.
