 PILGRIMAGE ITINERARY

PROPOSED

 

 

TUE. 14 SEP 2010    Depart from USA for overnight flight with dinner and a movie.

 

WED 15 SEP 2010    Arrive in Prague, Czech Republic and meet guide after Passport Control and Customs.  A short introductory tour of the city variously called, "the Golden City" or the "City of 100 spires."  The remainder of your day is at leisure to independently explore the city, shop for famous Bohemian crystal, or visit one of the city’s many outstanding museums, such as the Lapidarium, home of stone sculptures dating from the 11th century to the present.  Overnight in Prague.  (D)

 

THR 16 SEP 2010    After breakfast, begin with a panoramic tour as you drive through the city to the amazing Hradcany Castle. Walk the famous Golden Lane with its delightful miniature houses, including one that was the residence of Franz Kafka. View St. Vitus Cathedral as well as the lovely statue-lined Charles Bridge.  Overnight in Prague.  (B/D)

 

FRI 17 SEP 2010    After breakfast, depart for Vienna, Austria, the former capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. A city tour features the baroque marvels of Schoenbrunn Palace, the summer retreat of the Habsburg dynasty for more than 200 years. Touring Vienna’s city center, see the gothic St. Stephan’s Cathedral and behold the beautiful architecture, scenic parks, and gothic spires that fill the city. and have a short tour of the city before checking into our hotel. Overnight in Vienna (B/D)

 

SAT 18 SEP 2010    After breakfast, travel along the banks of the Danube to the medieval town of Durnstein where you board your boat for a scenic Danube River cruise. "Waltz" across one of the most breathtaking bodies of water in the world, immortalized by Strauss, and travel through the historic Wachau Valley. Later, visit the 11th century Melk Abbey, famous for its production and collection of manuscripts. A leisurely ride through the Vienna Woods concludes this marvelous day. Optional visit to the wine village of Grinzing for dinner. Overnight in Vienna.  (B)

 

SUN 19 SEP 2010    After breakfast, we depart for a leisurely drive through Austria to the town famous for the movie, "Sound of Music", Salzberg.  We have a walking tour of the town including a visit to Mozart's birthplace and some time for leisure to soak up the local scene and enjoy a pastry the town is so famous for, before dinner and overnight. MON 20 SEP 2010    After breakfast, a little free time in Salzburg before our departure to Fussen, Germany to visit Neuschwanstein Castle.  Father will celebrate Mass in the Weis Kirche, a truly beautiful rococo-style church in a delightful meadow designed in the late 1740's.  Continue to Oberammergau for dinner and overnight as per their arrangements. 

 

TUE 21 SEP 2010     After breakfast,  join pilgrims from around the world for Mass and then some free time for shopping and a visit to the Oberammergau Museum.  In the afternoon, once we finish our included lunch, we take our seats for the performance of the Passion Play.  There is a break for the included dinner.   The original performance dates back to 1634. During the Thirty Year War, the village of Oberammergau was spared the Black Plague and for this reason, the villagers vowed that every ten years they would give a play to honor the life of Christ. The performers are native Oberammergauers. To lend authenticity to the performance, the cast start to grow their hair and beards more than a year in advance. Also, the intricate costumes are made locally by the villagers. Overnight in Oberammergau.  (B, L, D)

 

WED 22 SEP 2010      After breakfast,  stop at the Monastery of Ettal to visit the beautiful Benedictine Monastery.  After Father celebrates Mass, have a tour and a taste of the famous brew the monks produce here. Continue on to Munich and enjoy an introductory tour of the capital of the state of Bavaria, featuring the Olympic Park, Marienplatz and the Glockenspiel.  The rest of the day is free to wander or shop before our farewell dinner at one of the giant Oktoberfest tents with lots of good food, drink and music.   Overnight in Munich area.  (B/D)

 

THR 23 SEP 2010    Time to depart for home with many memories to Give Thanks and Remember. (B)

A second payment of $1000 will be due by January 1, 2010.

The balance which will include airfare will be due 8 weeks prior to departure
