 SPAIN:  2 Different Itinerary Ideas

 

 Madrid, Avila, Segovia, Santiago di Compostelo

 

DAY 1:    Depart USA

DAY 2:    Welcome to Spain.  Enjoy some of the countryside on our way to the

                 Monastery of El Escorial to celebrate Mass and have a tour.   

                 Return to Madrid to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

 

DAY 3:    Mass in the Cathedral and before our tour of the Royal Palace. 

                Have a free afternoon to enjoy the city. 

                Perhaps you'd like to visit the Prado, or stroll in Plaza Major. 

                Dinner and overnight in Madrid.

 

DAY 4:   Depart Madrid for Avila.  Celebrate Mass at the Basilica of St. Theresa

               before our tour of Avila including the Cathedral.  Free time for lunch and to wander

               before going to Seqovia for dinner and overnight.

 

DAY 5:  Tour  of Seqovia to include the Alcazar, the Aqueduct and Mass in the Cathedral

              Free time before dinner and overnight in Seqovia.

 

DAY 6:  Depart for Santiago di Compostelo.  Celebrate Mass and have some free time

              before we check into the hotel for dinner and overnight.

 

DAY 7   See the Archbishop's Palace, the Plaza del Obradoiro and Rajoy Place

              Celebrate Mass in St. James' Cathedral and see the Botafumeiro swing

              high over the altar.  Dinner and overnight Santiago di Compostelo.

 

DAY 8:  Return to Madrid and have some free time before dinner and overnight

 

DAY 9   Depart for home

 

 Madrid, Toledo, Cordoba, Granada, Seville, Lisbon

DAY 1:    Depart from USA

DAY 2:   Arrive in Spain and enjoy a leisurely drive through the countryside to El Escorial

                to celebrate Mass.  Stop at the Valley of the Fallen on our return to Madrid. 

                Check into the hotel for dinner and overnight.

 

DAY 3:   After breakfast, enjoy a half day morning tour of the Royal Palace, the former residence

               of Spanish royal families, and the Prado Museum which holds a collection of the

               world's most famous painters such as El Greco, Velasquez, Goya, Rafael and

               Rubens.  Celebrate Mass before dinner and overnight.

 

DAY 4:    Depart for the walled town of Availa.  Visit the Cathedral and the convent of

                St. Theresa where we'll celebrate Mass.  Have time to wander the quaint streets and

               enjoy lunch before we depart for Segovia to see the Aqueduct and the elegant and

                luminous "Lady of Cathedrals" and the world famous Alcazar castle located over the

                magnificent rock.  Return to Madrid for dinner and overnight.

 

DAY 5:   Depart for Toledo, emerging towards the sky  surrounded by the Tagus River.

               The whole town is a monument to Spanish art, history and spirituality.  Taking the

               escalator up the town's height we visit the Cathedral of St. Juan of the Kings,

               celebrate Mass at St. Tome Church and visit the Synagogue.

                        Continue to Cordoba through the arid lanscapes of Don Quixote's La Mancha to

               the fertile valley of the Gualdaquivir and check into our hotel. 

               Free time to enjoy the city before dinner and overnight.

 

DAY 6:   After breakfast, tour the town of Cordoba, known for the rich history of the Arabs and

              Jews who populated this area.  Visit the Mosque, the Old Jewish Quarter,

               the Roman Bridge and the Alcazar. 

                         Continue to Granada after lunch.  When we arrive we'll celebrate Mass and then

               continue to the Alhambra, famous Arabic architecture fortress.  See the Charles V

               Palace and gorgeous gardens.  Enjoy a panoramic view of the city before checking

               into our hotel for dinner and overnight.

 

DAY 7:  After breakfast, depart for the vibrant capital of Andalusia:  Seville.  Admire the pools

              and fountains of Maria Luisa Park.  Celebrate Mass in the Cathedral with Columbus' 

              Tomb..  Check into our hotel and have some free time before dinner. 

              Enjoy an optional Flamenco show in the evening for a truly Andalusian evening.

 

DAY 8:  After breakfast, celebrate Mass at the Chapel of Santa Maria del Macarenia then

              enjoy a morning walk to the renaissance Town Hall and stroll through the narrow lanes

              of the charming Santa Cruz Quarter.  Leisure afternoon on your own.

 

DAY 9:  Morning departure for Lisbon.  Drive through Extremadura, the arid homeland of the

              conquistadors Cortez and Pizarro  Cross the border near the historic citadel of

              Badajoz.  Stop at Elvas, noted for the 16th century aqueduct which still supplies the

              market town with water.  Mass along the way.  Late afternoon arrive in Lisbon.

              Dinner and overnight.

 

DAY 10:  Enjoy a panoramic tour of the capital to see the Belem Tower and the statue of

                Christ the King, as well as St. Jeronimo's Monastery and the Church of St. Anthony

                of Padua who was born here in Lisbon.     Enjoy a free afternoon wandering in the

                lovely city center walking area.   Dinner and overnight in Lisbon.

 

DAY 11:  Time to say goodbye and head for home. 

                Transfer to the airport for our flights to the USA

                 with memories to Give Thanks and Remember
