2024 January 19-30 Pilgrimage to the Holy Land: Israel and Jordan

FRI 19 JAN 24      Depart on Austrian Airlines in the evening from Dulles, Washington DC on evening flight.  Dinner and movie on board.

SAT 20 JAN 24      Arrive in Vienna after breakfast on board and transfer to our flight to  Tel Aviv, arriving in the afternoon. After Passport Control, be greeted by our guide and driver.  Drive north along the Mediterranean Seacoast to Nazareth. Check in, Mass, dinner and overnight.

SUN 21 JAN 24     After breakfast, we take a boat across the Sea of Galilee, recalling when Jesus calmed the storm and called Peter to walk on water to Him.  Visit Caphernaum where Jesus called St. Peter and many of the other apostles.   Visit the Synagogue where He healed and taught and see Peter’s House.   Continue to The Primacy where Jesus confirmed St. Peter’s mandate after His resurrection. Continue to to Tabgha where he fed the 5000 and Enjoy an included St. Peter’s Fish lunch.

End the day at the new exploration of Magdala with its First century synagogue and new church overlooking the Sea where Father will celebrate Mass.  Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

MON 22 JAN 24  After breakfast, cross the street to visit the Church of the Annunciation to see where The Word Became Flesh then visit the upper parish church and the museum built over the village of Nazareth.   Learn about the many churches that have been built over the House of Mary.  Stop at Joseph’s Carpenter Shop, and then walk through the town where Jesus grew up.  Continue up to the Synagogue Church to read scripture and pray before walking to Mary’s Well where the Angel Gabriel came to Mary. 

          After included lunch, depart for Cana where Father will celebrate Mass and renew wedding vows of couples in the area where Jesus performed his first miracle changing water into wine.

TUE 23 JAN 24  After breakfast, depart for the Golan Heights where, at the base of Mount Hermon, we find the ancient Caesarea Philippi and Jesus asks, “Who do people say I am?” and tells Peter, “You are Rock and on this Rock, I will build my Church and the gates of Hell will not prevail over it,”

After a lunch stop, continue to Mount Tabor, site of the Transfiguration where Father will celebrate Mass. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

WED 24 JAN 24  Mass in the Grotto of the Annunciation before breakfast, then depart to the Jordan River to renew Baptismal promises.  Stop in Jericho to see the Mount of Temptations and the Sycamore Tree before we drive south to Qumran where the Dead Sea scrolls were found.  Stop to float in the Dead Sea before going up to Jerusalem.  Check into hotel in Jerusalem.  Dinner and overnight.

 THR 25 JAN 24     After our buffet breakfast, depart through the Old City to the Western Wall where young men come to celebrate their Bar Mitzvah here and have time to pray at The Wall before we go up on to the Temple Mount to see the golden Dome of the Rock and learn the history of this special place revered by Jews, Muslims and Christians.  Stop at the Crusader Church of St Anne’s (with perfect acoustics).

Continue to Bethlehem to enjoy an included lunch before visiting the oldest Christian church in the world, built over the place where Our Lord was born.  Father will celebrate Mass in Shepherd’s Field.  Have time to shop before returning to our hotel in Jerusalem

FRI 26 JAN 24   After buffet breakfast, depart for Ein Karim to visit the place of St. John the Baptist birth, and the Visitation Church.  Father will celebrate Mass in the Visitation Church.   A short visit to the Israeli Museum to see the Dead Sea Scrolls and a 1/50th scale model of Jerusalem

In the afternoon, pray the Via Dolorosa, carrying a cross up through the Old City to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher .             

 SAT 27 JAN 24    Father will celebrate Mass in the Holy Sepulcher and after a buffet breakfast, drive up on the Mt of Olives and walk down from the place of the Ascension to the Carmelite Convent where we celebrate Pater Noster, the prayer Our Lord taught us.  Continue to  Dominus Flevit where He wept over the city, and down to Gethsemane. 

          After lunch, visit St. Peter in Gallicantu and David’s Tomb, and the Upper Room on Mount Zion. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.Depart In the evening to enjoy a Mid-East Feast in a Bedouin Tent!

SUN 28 JAN 24    After buffet breakfast,  transfer to Jordan, meet our Jordanian guide and drive up to Mt. Nebo where Father will celebrate Mass overlooking the Promised Land as Moses did.  Stop in Madaba to see the oldest map of the mid-East on the Greek Orthodox church floor before continuing to Petra.  Check into hotel for dinner and overnight.

MON 29 JAN 24      After a full buffet breakfast, walk to the entrance to Petra and begin our full day of exploring this 4th Century B.C. hidden city of the Nabatean’s.  Walk  thru the Siq and be amazed by the Treasury and other monuments carved into the rose red rock.  Continue to the Roman ruins and 4th Century Byzantine Church.  Have some free time before Driving north to Amman where Father will celebrate Mass before we Check into hotel for dinner and short nap before departure to airport.

TUE 30 JAN 24 Time to depart for the airport and our flight on Lufthansa through Frankfurt for home with  many memories to Give Thanks and Remember.
